I need help with my small, crappy backyard that has an annoying slope, has poor drainage. I want to put pavers down, but I'm not sure how to deal with the slope/drainage and the existing grass and deck.

Dealing with a slope and poor drainage can be extremely frustrating if you have not successfully dealt with it before.
The slope may require installation of a retaining wall of some kind to help level the area in which you are planning a paver patio. The simplest retaining wall can be made with boulders. Depending on the size of the hill/slope, you may need to use a skid steer to install these. However, a small rise can be conquered by using smaller rocks (6-12 inches). If you are having issues with drainage, you will want to use free-draining stone behind the wall, with landscape fabric between the existing soil and stone to ensure water can drain away from the boulder wall.

I would also recommend putting in a drain tile at the base of the wall to run any excess water away from the base of the wall.

If you would like help planning and installing this project, feel free to contact me (Brent) at 616 328-3258.
